The Harlow Star have recently reported on the ongoing operation launched by Essex police to reduce burglaries in the area. The scheme is called ‘Operation Insight‘ and was initiated on 1st October 2013.
The police officers work have seen the number of house burglaries lower from 4,483 between October 2012 and March 2013, to 4,045 between October 2013 and March 2014. That is 438 fewer burglaries!
Operation Insight involves police officers gathering information by using intelligence to determine exactly where future burglaries may occur. In addition, various procedures are used such as greater police presence in high risk areas.
The most recent figures are showing that the scheme is still effective in cracking down on burglary rates. For the last year from April 2014 to March 2015, 755 less burglaries were reported than for the same period twelve months previously.
“Using intelligence, we can target our resources to areas that could be at higher risk of burglaries, helping us to deter offenders and provide reassurance to residents.
